SUBJECT: Filing Of Criminal Complaint Against Former Broadmoor Police Chief Michael Connolly
 
The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office announced today that a misdemeanor criminal complaint has been filed in the San Mateo County Superior Court charging former Broadmoor Police Chief Michael Connolly with three misdemeanor offenses for violation of the California conflict of interest laws. The complaint alleges two misdemeanor counts of Government Code section 1090 and one count misdemeanor count of Government Code section 87100. The court case number is 21-NM-007208-A.
 
All three charges relate to the process for hiring a new Broadmoor Chief of Police in 2019 that Connolly improperly participated in while a member of the Broadmoor Police Commission. The potential conflict of interest violations were reported to the California Fair Political Practices Commission. After reviewing the complaint the FPPC referred the matter to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office for investigation. After a lengthy investigation, the District Attorney’s Office filed the three misdemeanor charges on June 17, 2021.
 
The first court appearance is set at 8:30 on Thursday, June 24, 2021 in the South San Francisco courthouse, 1050 Old Mission Road. South San Francisco.
